Getting a driver's license will not be so easy

Getting a driver's license will not be so easy. The Jakarta police is putting an effort to eliminate bribing in obtaining driver's license. Or so says Kompol Gatot Subroto, the chief of drivers license section, the Jakarta police. [1]

This step, he said is to "ensure the individuals holding the license have the ability to drive, and understand the traffic regulations."

Getting driver's license in Indonesia is notoriously difficult, not because the exam is hard, but allegedly it is made difficult so the examiners can get kickbacks from bribes.

It is no wonder that his statement is received with great cynicism.

Gus Dur claimed that he is a descendant of the Princess of Campa, one of the wives of the king of Majapahit, Brawijaya V.
(This website shows photos of the cemetery where the princess was buried, in East Java).

The reason why he is saying this is unclear, but Gus Dur is known by Indonesians for his pointless rants.
